Army Vet & Bronze Star Medalist Receives 2016 ‘Juvenile Justice Scholarship’
Jennifer L. Barrow of Riverview, Florida is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship from the Denver law firm. The funds will be applied toward her college expenses at Harvard Law School.
Every year, Tiftickjian Law Firm offers law school scholarships for those interested in pursuing a career in juvenile justice. While selecting a recipient is never easy, this year one young lady stood out from the pack.
Jennifer L. Barrow, who hails from The Sunshine State, has helped to defend our country. Now one day she hopes to defend the rights of America’s youth charged with a crime.
“I graduated from West Point in 2004 and served as a military intelligence army officer for about seven years,” Barrow wrote in her scholarship application. “I served in Iraq and Afghanistan, earning the Bronze Star in Iraq.”
The Bronze Star Medal is a United States decoration awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone.
Along with this prestigious medal, Barrow has received the Book Award for Constitutional Law for the highest grade in her class, the Book Award for Legal Writing for the highest grade in the class and the Joseph P. Stilwell Award for highest grade in her military ethics class.
“I also made the Dean’s List two semesters while attending the University of Florida, five semesters while attending West Point and one semester while attending Newman University,” stated Barrow.
This September, Barrow will attend Harvard Law School to pursue her Doctor of Law degree. Upon graduation in May 2018, she hopes to utilize her legal skills for good in and outside the courtroom. For this reason, Tiftickjian Law Firm is pleased to offer Barrow a $1,000 scholarship to help offset the cost of her tuition at the esteemed college.
“We have discovered that nothing matters more in the early life of a youth charged with a crime than lawyers, legal professionals, and judges who are committed to defending the rights of the youth,” stated Jay Tiftickjian, owner and trial lawyer with Tiftickjian Law Firm. “That is why our law firm offers the Juvenile Justice Scholarship.”
The goal of the Juvenile Justice Scholarship is also to raise awareness of the issue of prison sentences and reduced rights for minors that place youths on an institutionalized path towards spending a large part of their life in the criminal justice system.
